At Salahuddin Future Academy, we are committed to creating a healthy school environment that
enhances the development of lifelong wellness practices. Our School Wellness Policy reflects the
requirements set forth by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture (NJDA) and aligns with federal
standards under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.
- 1. Nutrition Promotion and Education:
- Integrate nutrition education into the curriculum to promote healthy eating habits.
- Display posters and materials that encourage students to make healthier food choices.
- Ensure that nutrition education aligns with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
- 2. Physical Activity:
- Provide all students with opportunities for daily physical activity, aiming for at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily.
- Include structured physical education programs taught by qualified staff.
- Promote physical activities such as extracurricular sports, fitness challenges, etc.
- 3. School Meals:
- Serve meals that comply with USDA nutritional standards, including offering fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy products.
- Accommodate special dietary needs as required by law.
- Provide students with adequate time to eat, at least 20 minutes for lunch, in a friendly environment.
- 4. Other School-Based Wellness Activities:
- Encourage staff wellness initiatives, including workshops on nutrition and physical activity.
- Organize school-wide health events, such as health fairs and wellness challenges.
- Ensure vending machines, school stores, and fundraisers adhere to Smart Snacks in School nutrition standards.
- 5. Implementation and Monitoring:
- Ensure that the school community is aware of the policy.
- Conduct annual reviews of the policy and its implementation.
- Collect and report data on student health and wellness activities, including participation in school meals and physical activity programs.
- 6. Public Involvement and Transparency:
- Ensure the Wellness Policy is available in the school and shared with parents through physical papers and during any parent-teacher meetings.
- Encourage feedback from the school community to enhance the policy’s effectiveness.
- 7. Compliance:
- The SFA directors, managers, and designated staff members will monitor compliance with the policy.
- Regular assessments will be conducted to ensure the SFA meets all state and federal wellness requirements.
- 8. Evaluation:
- The necessary SFA members will evaluate the effectiveness of the policy on an annual basis.
- Results of the evaluation will be shared with the school community and used to update the policy as needed.
